Even if you have a dentist you love and someone you visited multiple times in the past, you might hesitate when you experience pain or discomfort outside of traditional business hours. Many patients worry that their offices won’t offer emergency appointments. They try to deal with the pain for days on their own. There are certain situations that require you make an emergency appointment right away.

Broken Tooth

There are few things worse than biting down on a piece of food and feeling your tooth shatter or break. While some dental problems can wait a few days, you should never wait to see a dentist after suffering a broken tooth. That break can indicate a buildup of bacteria underneath your gum or inside your tooth. The bacteria can eventually reach your bloodstream and cause serious medical problems. If you have a filling or a cap that falls out, you should also contact an emergency dentist to take care of the problem as quickly as possible.

Abscessed Tooth

Dentists recommend that patients consult an emergency clinic or make an emergency appointment after discovering an abscessed tooth in their mouths. You can identify an abscessed tooth by the pocket of pus that you feel along your gum line. Abscesses often form on teeth that are severely broken and those that suffer from a buildup of decay. The infection inside that abscess can spread through your bloodstream and form a blood clot that can lead to a stroke. If you feel a patch of inflammation along your gums, make an emergency appointment right away.

Don’t Sacrifice Your Heath

Every time you ignore a broken tooth or put off seeing a dentist when you experience pain, you put your overall health on the line. Problems like a broken tooth or an abscess can have serious implications on your health. If you experience any of these conditions, it’s important to make an emergency dental appointment.
