Healthy gums are pale pink to bright pink in color. Poor gums may have white streaks, look puffy or turn a bright red color. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, can cause a weakening of your teeth, help cavities grow larger and even lead to your teeth falling out. If you notice some signs of gum disease in your own mouth, you must schedule an appointment with a dentist.

Early Warning Signs

Some of the early warning signs of periodontal disease that you might notice include an odd taste in your mouth and inflammation in your gums. That odd taste can seem slightly bitter or even metallic. Patients often experience some pain in their gums and inflammation or swelling too. You may also find that your gums frequently bleed after brushing your teeth, even when you use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth and gums.

Changes in the Placement of Your Teeth

Once your gum disease progresses, you may notice changes in the way your teeth fit into your mouth. This occurs because the gums separate from your teeth and because the gums are no longer strong enough to support all your teeth. Though it can start with a few teeth feeling loose inside your mouth, many find that their teeth start shifting and moving away from each other. Some also find that when they bite down, their teeth no longer fit together properly. Dentists in Las Vegas recommend that patients suffering from any of these signs make an appointment immediately.

Do You Have Gum Disease?

The only one who can tell you if you suffer from periodontal disease is your dentist. If any of these symptoms plague you, give your dentist a call. During your next appointment, the dentist will determine if you suffer from gum disease and decide how to treat your disease to save your teeth and gums.
