Three Tips for Good Dental Hygiene While in College
Starting college is a busy time in anyone’s life. From finding your way around campus to meeting your professors and getting all of your supplies in order, activities like remembering to use a fluoride rinse may fall by the wayside. In addition to regular cleanings and checkups with experienced dentists in Las Vegas, college students can also use these three tips to maintain good dental hygiene.
Brush and Floss Every Day
Brushing and flossing only take two minutes of time, twice per day. College students can even multitask these activities when really pressed for time. You can study for your chemistry exam while brushing. It’s even possible to floss your teeth while waiting for your coffee to brew. If you’re really in a hurry, you could brush and floss your teeth while rinsing off in the shower.
Use a Fluoride Rinse
If you usually drink bottled water, your teeth might not be as protected as they could be. Uae a nightly fluoride rinse about half an hour after brushing. Using the fluoride rinse at this time allows it to be fully absorbed by the enamel of your teeth, as you won’t be eating or drinking while asleep.
Enjoy a Healthy Diet
Almost as important as regular checkups, brushing and flossing is a healthy and balanced diet. This can be difficult for college students on a budget and for people who are too busy to spend an hour cooking and sitting down to eat a meal. In the cafeteria, stick with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthier treats like fruit topped with granola. Even fast food restaurants offer options like fresh salads. Alcohol and tobacco can ruin the enamel of teeth and may cause painful conditions of the gums and soft tissues in the mouth.
