Most people think they know the ins and outs of cavities. However, a lot of myths are circulating out there, so let’s take a look at some of them!

MYTH #1: If you have a cavity, you will feel it.

Small cavities that are just beginning to form don’t cause any symptoms. Only when a cavity gets large enough to cause damage to the nerve will it cause pain. Regular visits to the dentist are the best way to catch cavities before they get to that point.

MYTH #2: Sensitive teeth indicate a cavity.

There are many causes of sensitive teeth, such as gum recession or a cracked or broken tooth. Also, your teeth may just be extra sensitive in general. However, you should still play it safe and see your dentist.

MYTH #3: Kids are more likely to get cavities than adults.

Tooth decay in kids has actually been cut in half in the last 20 years, while tooth decay in adults has not seen the same decrease. In fact, some groups of adults, such as senior citizens, are seeing more tooth decay than ever.

MYTH #4: All fillings need to be replaced.

Fillings do need to be replaced if they crack or if a cavity forms around them; but if you brush and floss properly, it probably won’t need replacing. Good dentistry is key!

It’s important to avoid cavities, but if you do get one and need a good Las Vegas cosmetic dentist, call BDG to schedule your next check-up!
