Brushing Tips from the Dentists (There’s More to it Than the 2-Minute Mark)

Posted on: September 3, 2016 | Blog

Brushing our teeth is something we do every day, but there’s a lot more to it than we think. Here are some tips for things to avoid doing when you brush, straight from the dentists!

Remember to brush your teeth

(1) Using Worn Out Bristles

If you haven’t changed your toothbrush in the last three months, its bristles won’t be able to effectively clean your teeth anymore. It’s also important to replace your toothbrush because it’ll accumulate a lot of bacteria.

(2) Brushing Too Hard or Too Often

There is such a thing as going overboard with brushing! Doing it too hard or too often can actually damage your tooth enamel.

(3) Always Starting in the Same Place

By the time you get to the last part of your mouth that you brush, you’re in more of a hurry because you’re ready to be done; so more plaque builds up in this area. Mix it up and start on different teeth every time!

(4) Using the Wrong Motion

You should be brushing with the bristles at a 45-degree angle to your teeth, and using a vertical or circular motion instead of brushing horizontally to avoid gum abrasions.

(5) Not Rinsing

Bacteria can grow very quickly on your toothbrush if you don’t rinse it after every use. Instead of getting your teeth clean, you’ll just be adding more bacteria back into your mouth that could lead to more problems.

While all these things will help your teeth stay healthy, it’s still important to have regular oral check-ups. Contact us today for the best dentistry in Las Vegas!
