Here at Boston Dental Group, we like our patients to know that getting dental implants requires a number of visits over several months. Impression molds and x-rays are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine the bone, tissue, and area available for the implant. The process requires that the area is numb, so that the implant can be surgically placed into the necessary part of the bone and allowed to heal, while integrating itself into the jaw for a period of up to six months. Depending on the type of dental implant, a follow-up surgery might be necessary in order to further anchor the false teeth in place. In some dental implant procedures, the post and anchor are mounted simultaneously.

Because several fittings of the implant may be necessary, the perfect size may not be found for a few months. Once a patient has recovered fully, secure false teeth may be attached to the implants, allowing for greater comfort and stability for the patient.

Upon completion of the dental implant procedure, our patients are instructed about proper dental habits, correct eating habits, and given a schedule of regular follow-up visits to make sure that life after the procedure has adjusted smoothly to the new arrangement.
