One of the things that sets us apart from other dental offices is that we have an Insurance Department.
The functions of the Insurance Department are tailored to the insurance needs of our patients. As many of you have experienced, your company might have recently changed to a different dental insurance carrier during open enrollment. We have seen many new insurance carriers and plans in the past two years compared to previous years. Being that providing dental care is the purpose for our business, we want to make sure our team members are equipped with proper knowledge of the new plans and carriers. This way when you come in to our offices, we can better prepare you for your dental plan coverage and details.
Our Insurance Department is responsible for keeping up with insurance plan changes and updates with new plans or insurance carriers. They then share the information with our front office teams so when you visit our offices, the front office teams are prepared with vital insurance coverage information for you. The insurance department team members are very well trained and are all very knowledgeable in the requirements and limitations of wide variety of insurances including PPO, HMO, Culinary, and Medicaid plans.
The other half of their job function is following up on claim status and claim payments with your insurance company. Many insurance companies have a filing time limit for claims now so it is essential that a dedicated team is following up with the insurance companies to make sure claims are received in a timely manner. Our offices send mostly electronic claims vs. paper claims. In addition, the Insurance Department team ensures all proper documents are sent in with the claims such as x-rays or narratives, and they also follow up with you if your insurance company is requesting additional information from the patient such as full time student status report.
Our hope is for our Insurance Department to continue to grow in capacity and functions as we anticipate the growing diversity of dental insurance plans and carriers. We want to make sure we can better prepare all of our patients for your dental insurance needs.
